Moving Up to the Second Floor

It felt like such a big move up, there were 3 floors in our school. The 5th and 6th grades were on the second floor and the 7th and 8th grades were on the third floor. I felt so grown up to be moving to the second floor especially since my brother and sister were still on the 1st floor.

This is the year that we started a new church, as well. I was nervous at first but soon began to settle in and feel like a part of the church. I learned a lot from the sunday school lessons for youth. I really liked our new church and my parents enjoyed serving by teaching the children’s church. My dad taught the class and played guitar for the kids to sing too. My mom did the craft time; sometimes I helped, as well.

A lot of the church families were starting to homeschool their kids and my parents looked at homeschool bible curriculum. They ultimately decided against homeschooling us but I really wished my mom had taught us at home instead of sending us to public schools.

School was still difficult for me. I did have fun this year because I finally had a true best friend. I also had my first enemy. It wasn’t that I wanted to be enemies with her, she did not like me and she told me so. My mom said she was jealous of me and I believe it was that she was jealous of my friendship with my best friend. We were really close and we played games together at recess, we spent the night at each other’s houses and were basically inseparable. I understood why anyone would feel jealous, she was a very special friend and she made going to school fun.
